About the event
Dan Coxon is an award-winning editor and writer based in London. His non-fiction anthology Writing The Uncanny (co-edited with Richard V. Hirst) won the British Fantasy Award for Best Non-Fiction 2022.
Alice Sielle started painting full time in 1973 as an abstract painter, but now also does figurative work when the subject demands no ambiguity. She will be showing a selection of her art thorughout November at Bàrd Books.
Using elements of experimentation and play in fiction writing, applied to Alice's artworks as inspiration, Dan will lead a creative writing workshop covering general theory as well as some writing exercises.
Writing the Uncanny sees some of the best contemporary authors explain what drew them to horror, ghost stories, folklore and beyond, and reveal how to craft unsettling fiction which resonates. Authors such as Jeremy Dyson, Alison Moore, Jenn Ashworth and Catriona Ward share their insights on psychogeography, fairy tales, cultural tradition…
